Day 3 – Saturday April 6

I walked down to the beach about 6:30am but it was high tide and wind gusts to 55mph. It’s an invigorating way to start the day.

We worked on our books most of the day. The Coptic stitch is difficult, especially when the covers are thick pieces of wood. Then we made an excursion into the village to look/shop at the beautifully made arts.

We also stopped at the Heritage Center and the Abbey.

The Abbey is one of the oldest Christian centers in Western Europe and one of Scotland’s most historic and sacred sites. Irish and Norwegian kings are buried there. It’s been restored in the 20th century and locals maintain it now.

The day ended in a banquet with storytelling and learning more about Iona’s history.
