Jan. 3, 2015 – opium and hill tribes near Chiang Rai

We were kept really busy today stopping at the House of Opium Museum to hear stories of the opium warlords who once controlled this area known as The Golden Triangle.  Thailand is hoping tourism to visit the hill tribes will be a preferable alternative to growing opium.  We watched the Akha, in elaborate headdresses, dance and sing.  Then on to have lunch with the Long Necks who prepared a delicious meal.  Girls start wearing the brass rings around age 5.
