Aug. 18 – Hoga Island for snorkeling

The Rally had arranged a local boat to take us to Hoga Island for a day of snorkeling.  It was a very long 2.5 hour ride in an old and rickety wood boat belching diesel fumes and drowning out potential conversations.  It felt great to get back into the water after almost ten months.  It wasn’t Tonga but there were lots of tropical fish and a few patches of interesting coral.  After a box lunch we squeezed back into the ferry for another two plus hour ride under very cramped conditions.

When our “captain” wasn’t behind the wheel he sat on the roof dangling his feet down to steer.

steer.
