April 27 – Estabar’s Cafe and Coffs Harbour in torrential rains

The final stretch driving back from Sydney took way too long.  We stopped again in Newcastle for lunch at Estabar Cafe because we loved their food and menu when we drove through before.  This time I had the baked beans and toast, a very British invention, with local Hunterbelle Fetta.  Last time I had the apple, brown rice, and fennel salad with hazelnuts and local blue cheese.  After a lengthy conversation with the staff about their food we decided to detour to the upscale market to buy some cheese and such.  We eventually found the market inside an enormous mall with a very clever parking garage.  Each parking stall had a red/green light to indicate if empty or occupied so you could drive through the parking lot and easily spot a vacancy.

This detour meant we arrived in Coffs Harbour way after dark in a horrible downpour.  We were starving and got drenched running across the street to the only open restaurant – Tandoori Oven. The server was friendly and the food was worth wading through ankle deep water.
