April 15-17 – Sydney to Katoomba

We drove back into Sydney in the dark at rush hour.  Oh no.  We spent one night at Sydney Harbour YHA.  The parking garage was almost as expensive as our room!  The next morning we drove out to the Blue Mountains in Katoomba for open space and more relaxing environment.  These are just random shots walking from the hostel to the car in Sydney.

We enjoyed our time in Katoomba relaxing in what used to be Homesdale (now a YHA) built in 1921.  The dining room was originally the Wentworth Cabaret.  Wild cockatoos greeted me in the garden one morning.  The kitchen was huge with big refrigerators, and the lounge area had plenty of comfortable chairs where I met some well-traveled women.  This was a hard place to leave.  We drove out to Echo Point and Three Sisters, and walked along the paths glimpsing the peaks and the cockatoos.  We just missed being part of the crowd for the royal visit from Will and Kate and Prince George.
