The highlight of the trip (for me) was the rodeo. It was also the reason we had difficulty getting lodging as it was the second biggest event of the year. It took us forever to drive in and park but we had such a good time wandering around the fair, looking at all the livestock and people watching. It was a typical small town fair with craft booths, food, bocce ball and rides. This is where all the different cultures that make up New Caledonia come together. But the bronco riding was really something. As we entered the rodeo area I hung around where the cowboys were getting ready. The excitement and high energy was palpable as they pulled on their chaps, spurs, and gloves. No one was hurt, not even the horses, although it looked like some pretty nasty crash landings.
