Sept. 17 – driving around southern New Cal

After we picked up our rental car that we shared with Nick and Kathy we headed out to Parc de la Riviere Bleue, Lac de Yate, Yate, Baie de Goro, Port Boise and Prony before heading back very late in the day.  It’s impressive countryside with gouged-out hillsides exposing deep red strips of earth.  We passed a defunct mining operation and another in full swing with a long covered conveyor belt running down the hillside.  We saw plenty of blue sky, mangrove swamps and quite a variety of pine trees.  Roads were pretty good, almost no traffic and almost no commerce.  Fortunately we found a gite (small modest hotel) that offered lunch.
