Day 3 – Nov. 24 – Ferry to Nelson

So much for chronological sequencing.

We took the ferry from Wellington to Picton and drove to Nelson for the beginning of our South Island tour.  It was a beautiful drive through wine (and sheep and cattle) country.  Almond House hostel had a friendly group of young people and we spent our first night playing Cranium – imagine a German, a Canadian, a Brit and two US seniors.  The language barrier alone made it a challenge.  The shoes on the fence phenomena was seen in several locations and I’ve no explanation.  Tree farming is BIG here – Pinus Radiata.
