We’ve been patiently waiting for an opportune time to leave Opua and it looks like Friday, June 15 is it. We’re getting last minute projects done and have one final stop at Countdown and New World markets for those must have items. Customs said about 10 boats are leaving today and another 6 tomorrow. At least we’ll have some company out there.
Here are some parting shots.
Chesapeake’s stern now with dinghy davits, wind vane “Winston”, emergency VHF antennae and wifi antennae, and big new solar panels.
Jim getting ready to install the electrical connectors on the backstay
Don’t try this at home.
A brief sidetrip to Kawakawa to see the Hunterwasser toilets. Designed by internationally renowned artist, ecologist and architect, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the toilets are made from the community’s recycled old glass bottles and reclaimed bricks. It is the only structure he ever built in the southern hemisphere.
And it’s a far cry from the toilets in China and San Gimignano, Italy.
Kawakawa also has some beautiful murals.
