April 21 – tired feet at the Auckland Museum

After an amazing breakfast at our hotel we headed out to Kelly Tarlton’s aquarium.  We enjoyed the penguin exhibit, and I walked away amazed that  they make 3 tons of snow every day to keep the penguins cold  Did you know there are at least 35 different kinds of sea horses?

Next stop was Auckland’s War Memorial Museum, housed in a neo-classical building with three floors chock full of collections of Maori taonga (treasures) and artefacts from the South Pacific.  We walked our feet off and only saw the first two floors.   Parking was easy and they ask for a donation ($10) which is money well spent when you consider how much is there to see.

I wish my photos were better quality but at least it gives you an idea of how much they have on exhibit.

  1. Years ago, when computers were in their infancy, I searched for images of Shields on Netscape. Nothing showed.
Even today on Google, there is little documentation of Shield art. Plenty of Brook Shields though. Thanks, they are very pretty.
    And Hello.
