Nov. 8 – strong current in Uoleva, Tonga

We left the bleak little town of Pangai this morning after a surprise rain at 5am soaking the end of the bed (someone left the hatch open).  Provisions were meager–lettuce (horray!) and cucumber and onions is all I could find.  We motor sailed to the next island here but I couldn’t snorkel because I didn’t have a mask, so I went beachcombing instead, finding plenty of small shells, especially cowrie.  Eventually I borrowed a mask and snorkeling was good but there was a very strong current by the beacon and the pass.  The resorts Ken mentioned in his guide didn’t seem to have any visitors so we had the area to ourselves, along with Yolo and Slip Away.  Because of the limited snorkeling for us, we bid a sad farewell to our friends and continued to head south.  It’s windy and there’s current and overcast skies.
