after leaving Faaroa Bay on August 15, we anchored near the marae de Taputapuatea, at Pt. Puutarape by motu Oatara. that’s a mouthful.  it was a lovely spot to snorkel and relax but when we tried to leave we discovered the anchor had wrapped around a coral head in 50ft+.  we had to hire a scuba diver ($$$) to set us free.  we continued clockwise around Raiatea stopping near Punaeroa pass for some exploratory snorkeling, then continued up the west side of the island to anchor just NE of motu Toamaro.  this was a near perfect anchoring spot.  a large flat plateau of sand about 8ft deep where we could see the anchor and chain.
